Pp<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>founded by the Phoenicians as a trading post and known as Gadir.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Phoenicians lost control of Gadir when they had trouble arising from the conquest of Tyre by the Babylonians in 573 B.C.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>later Carthage filled the power vacuum and was a depot for Hannibal&#8217;s conquest of Southern Iberia.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The city fell to the Romans in 206 B.C.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The city was conquered by the Visgoths in 551 A.D.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It was under Moorish rule between 711 A.D. and 1262   A.D.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The city flourished in the age of exploration.Two of Christopher Columbus&#8217;s voyages started from there.
