The line for our reserved time was long but fast moving. As soon as we were inside, it became obvious that we did not allow enough time to really give the cathedral it’s due.

Any adjectives that I might try to use will not (just as the photos won’t) convey the scale and scope of the structure, the art, the craftsmanship and religious imagery. Suffice it to say that I recommend visiting the cathedral and allowing a couple of hours for the tour.

We all climbed the bell tower which was built on top of what had been the minaret of the mosque which pre-dated the cathedral. This climb was no small feat as we had to climb 34 ramps to get to the top. Jesse carried Sage, Laura carried Jasper and I carried those extra tapas that I ate yesterday. There was a solid line of people going up and coming back down in a passageway that seemed to get narrower as it got higher. The view from the top was pretty good – unfortunately, it was too busy to loiter and really take in the views. We spent our remaining time exploring in a bit of a hurry. One interesting thing (amongst many) was getting to see the tomb of Christopher Columbus.

From the cathedral, we hurried to the Cristina Hoyos Flamenco Museum. We had tickets for a show there which also gave access to the museum. Jesse was a bit worried about how the kids would fare in the hour long show. Not being a dance affecionado, I was concerned that I might find it boring. On both counts, the worries were unnecessary. Jasper quietly fed and looked around. Sage was transfixed with the first few dances and quietly watched the rest of the performance mollified by the snacks which Laura had packed. I thoroughly enjoyed the music and the dancing. The venue was small and we had excellent seats about 10 feet from the stage. So, we could hear well and clearly see the expressions on the faces of the performers.

The museum was solely focussed on Flamenco dancing but it was done so well and so artistically that I thought it was a real bonus for the day. I really liked some of the art that was displayed. I would recommend this museum to anyone visiting Seville.

We leave Seville tomorrow and head for Evora, Portugal (a drive of about three and one-half hours). I am sad to leave this city too and I would definitely like to visit Seville again!

Once we had Sage awake and moving following her afternoon nap, we headed directly to the Catedral de Seville.
