Jesse navigated our way out of the old city and we got to see some of the newer parts of Seville. We took a good road but it was not the expressway. So, we saw lots of cork oak trees, orange trees, pastures, olive trees, grapes and ? We were all glad that we had the car sand this chance to see the countryside.

Lunch was picnic- style at a small roadside rest stop in what turned out to be a grove of cork oak trees. It took us a while to figure out that they were cork oak trees but eventually figured out that the bark is used to make cork. (Google later confirmed this – apparently the trees grow large and the bark is harvested every 9 to 12 years without harming the tree.

After taking possession of our Air B &B, we walked around Evora and saw some of the sights (the city centre, the Temple of Diana and the Aqueduct). The restaurants here close in the afternoon and don’t open again until 7:30. We got caught not having eaten (a tragedy on this trip) and yet wanting to maintain Sage’s sleep schedule. After a frustrating search for somewhere open for dinner, we bought some eggs, veggies, buns and cheese and cooked our own meal featuring scrambled eggs.

We did well getting on the road this morning.
