We got away from Evora just after 9:00 a.m. and didn’t arrive in Regua until around 4:00 p.m. This drive would not normally take this long but we took a route that gave us a bit better idea of the countryside and we had to have three stops to accommodate the kids.

The scenery we were presented with was varied but all beautiful. We passed through lots of agricultural land – groves of different trees, land for cattle (I could easily visualize Ferdinand the bull sitting under a cork tree), grazing sheep and horses and crops I could not identify. As we drove, the geography changed from plain and rolling hills to rocky hillsides, and mountain (not the Rockies – more like Burnaby Mountain passes). I could not identify some of the trees (some of which looked cultivated) but there were some pine forests. In some places, I was reminded (except for the trees) of the B.C. interior.

There were of course lots of grapes, particularly as we got close to Regua. Based on first impressions, I think Regua is going to be very pretty.

I am sorry to say that I did not get many good photos of the trip. I will try to do better tomorrow.

Our Air B & B is very nice and right across the street from the promenade along the river. I think Jesse and Laura are hoping to find some wineries and taste some local wines while we are here as this valley has a good reputation.

Today we had our longest drive.
