A couple of thoughts from the trip:

I really need to spend the time to learn how to make use of the features available on my phone. Jesse and Laura use their phones to check menus, locate the nearest store or gas station, learn which restaurants are open and make reservations. And, they use them to successfully navigate these complicated cities and roads.

the photos I am taking should be better – another reason for learning what the phone is capable of.

I need to start looking for more synonyms. I keep using the words “spectacular” and “picturesque” to describe what I am seeing – the scenery, including today’s, deserves those words but more!

It seems that almost every inch of the Douro river valley – from the river to the top of some pretty high and steep peaks – is being put to good use. There is terrace after terrace of vineyards built with little rocks making their way up the hills. And, there are homes, large and small, perched here and there with unbelievable views.

Some of the views of the terraces from high vantage points actually remind me of some of the views at Machu Picchu.

The road we followed most of the way was very twisty. Eventually, we got back onto a toll expressway and arrived in Porto. Jesse did a good job of navigating his way into the city and eventually through the narrow streets of the old city where our Air B & B is situated.

The Air B & B is smaller (it had to be) than the previous one. It is on a very narrow pedestrian only street and the car is parked in a nearby parkade. While smaller, the Air B & B is well-appointed (another word for which I need to find a synonym) and we have settled in for the kids’ afternoon naps.

Today we left Regua and traveled traveled to Porto.
