Originally, I was supposed to be on a separate flight to Calgary but Brandon, Marley and Payton were transferred onto my flight. So a good start.

However, after boarding our flight to Rome, a “maintenance” issue kept us from flying for 2 hours; our 9.5 hour flight became 11.5 hours. Travelling with a 9 month old this could have been a bad development. But, Payton was great – she was in good spirits the whole time; when she wasn’t sleeping, she was busy charming everyone with her infectious smile.

We arrived in Rome about 3:30 p.m. on the 14th. Technically, the flight delay had caused an automatic cancellation of the ride we had booked from the airport to our Air B & B in the City but, fortunately, our driver was still there.

The trip into the City was a bit hair-raising (unfortunately in my case only my blood pressure was raised). Our driver was driving very quickly in heavy traffic in which there were a lot of aggressive drivers and scooters galore. He only slowed down marginally when we got into the very narrow streets near our destination. His mirror actually bumped a pedestrian in one busy, narrow street! To top it all off, the language barrier prevented him from “getting” all of my humorous (in my opinion) tension-breaking remarks about Evil Knievel.

After settling into our Airbnb, we walked around the neighborhood a bit (I think we will like it) We are near a large square, the Piazza Navona.), picked up some groceries and had some dinner (pizza of course). We then went to bed fairly early, hoping to get our bodies aligned with the local time tomorrow.

Piazza Navona

Travel – May 13th and 14th Our itinerary called for a flight on the 13th to Calgary where we would connect with our WestJet flight to Rome.
