i am not sure if my goal of losing one pound on this trip is even remotely realistic at this point. Starting our exploration for the day, Jesse and Laura wanted to sample some churros at our morning coffee stop. This is what came:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If I wanted to estimate the calories (only a fleeting thought), I would have needed a calculator! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I was expecting the churros to be coated in sugar and cinnamon a la PNE but they weren’t. However, they came with a rich cup of hot chocolate in which to dunk them. We weren’t able to finish them even with the chocolate. The coffee was very good again – I am starting to think that the coffee here is better than the coffee in Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We had decided to spend more time in the beach district. As we headed in that direction, we passed by the city market. Yes – more food – but mainly to look at. One section of the market was devoted to seafood. I have never before seen such a selection. The fruits and vegetables looked good as well. A couple of sample photos:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Judging by the columns and architecture, the market looks to have been located in an old public square:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We eventually made it to the beach. Sage played for quite a while with the sand and some shells.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We walked along the beach enjoying the views and then walked out on a long stone pier\/breakwater to another fort which, I think was located there to protect the port. Unfortunately, this castle, the Castle de San Sebastian, was closed for renovations. Apparently, this location was one a separate little island and has a long history including being a Site of an ancient temple.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Walking back to our Air B & B, we stopped for more tapas for lunch (my goal is doomed!}. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
