Cadiz – afternoon of February 22nd

We had no particular plans for the late afternoon and early evening so we set off walking in a different direction. It was fortuitous that we did. The streets were different with shops and little plazas that we had not yet seen.

Our route took us to a different point on the seawall. The view was different – very wide open to the ocean and a wide avenue – and pretty. We came upon one of the largest and most unique trees that I have ever seen. A one hundred years old Fiscus:

As we walked further, our luck continued and we came upon Genoves Botanical Park. This park had a large number of species of trees and provided Sage with a dead leaf to carry the rest of the afternoon.

Our afternoon finished with a stop at the grocery store to pick up some food for supper and our trip to Sevilla tomorrow. We needed to be back early as Jesse had a couple of virtual meetings scheduled for this evening.

I have enjoyed Cadiz and again feel sad to be leaving. It pleased me to think that I may have stood where Hannibal, Julius Caesar and Sir Francis Drake stood. But, it is hard to wrap my head around this city being nearly 3,000 years old (and Vancouver only being founded in 1886.

Tomorrow we head to Sevilla.. I don’t know much about it but am looking forward to it.
