May 25th – Cinque Terre

We had chosen Levanta as a destination because of its proximity to Cinque Terre (the 5 cliffside fishing villages which are a UNESCO heritage site and common postcard photos). There is a train which connects Levanta to Cinque Terre. For 32 Euros you can take the train back and forth, getting on and off at whichever of the 5 cities you want. This was our plan for the 25th.

The train works very well and is used like we are but also is used by hikers to get to their starting points. Cinque Terre seems to be a popular hiking destination.

The weather was good (but a bit hot) and it was a Saturday so it was very crowded. We only made it to 3 of the cities. They were as picturesque as advertised and we were glad that we did this excursion but we were happy to get back to Levanta at days end – it is very nice and noticeably less crowded. We have decided to add two more days to our stay in Levanta. We will have to switch units but we’re able to get another nice unit in the same complex.
