I am learning a new language on this trip. No, I am not starting with Portuguese. I am starting with “Sage-a!ese”
Sage’s language skills have really improved recently. She is starting to express herself in little sentences. Unfortunately, unless I see what has happened, I am missing quite a few of the words ( I am blaming her and not the fact that I too often forget to wear my hearing aids). But, I am determined to break the code on this trip.
“Boppa” means grandfather and I like it. To me it suggests something trusted and happy. In my mind grandfather suggests things like “metamucil” or “independent living”.
Before this trip the word I most often recognized was “mine”. I think maybe she had to learn it in order to hold her own in daycare.. But she was using it a lot. Now, she has progressed to a new and more difficult level. She now is using the word “why”. It becomes difficult (for me) to come up with answers other than “because” after she repeats the question in response to my first three answers.
if I ever want to get around to Portuguese, I may need to come up with some tricks. As a psychiatrist might say something like “how does that make you feel, I think I will try something like “why do think?” before I fall back to “just because “.
