Arrival in Lisbon – February 13th

We arrived in downtown Lisbon about 4:00 p.m. Laura had arranged for our Air B&B host to meet us at a nearby parkade as there was no parking provided with the rental and street parking is hard to get. We are in an old part of Lisbon and the streets are narrow and definitely not built with cars in mind.

It was only a short walk for our little safari to the air B&B. We are on the second floor but had to go up 3 flights (apparently they call the ground floor zero -?synchronicity with the name of my blo site?) and not one. I will put up a couple of photos of our street and the rental. We are in a very old building with very high ceilings and thick stone walls. In addition to 3 bedrooms, there is a kitchen, dining room, living room and bathroom (in addition to an ensuite).

With a dining recommendation from our host in hand, we walked a few blocks to a neat street with outside restaurants. It was a bit cool and had been raining so we ate inside . I had read that restaurants in Lisbon feature a lot of fresh seafood. Judging by our menu last night, this is correct. I had linguine with shellfish (including a couple of shellfish that did not look familiar). Jesse explained to me that it was squid ink that made the pasta black. Jesse had the same, Laura had salmon and Sage shared. It was pretty good!

After waking back to the rental, we all went to bed early. After about 18 hours of travel and really missing one night’s sleep’ we were tuckered out. We will have to do some work to get our circadian rhythms back in order (especially for the kids).
